Sonic Screwdriver by blackicepond Sonic Screwdriver by blackicepond
Made for eva_tsukino of DoA.

Made from recycled materials of aluminum, polycarbonate, brass, and delrin.

Blue LED (470nM) is powered by two LR41 watch batteries.

I learned a lot! Make your projects challenging so that you devise ways to make the work easier on yourself. (??)

I saw this with the handsome doctor, before I saw your post linking here in KageNoHoshimi's thread, and I must say that I was awestruck. This is some amazing crafting! Beautiful and genius!

OOOOOOOOOOOH! IWANNIT! I'd love to buy one of these if you wouldn't mind. If you would sell me one, how much would it cost?

I don't make them to sell them. I make them for fun. Your ideas can be realized for free. The only problem is finding the time.

INCREDIBLE! i've seen mixed comments of "i don't have time" and some of "i might, i have some more material laying around," so i have to ask; can you make me one? or do you have instructions on how to build one? i'd kill to have one of these on my keychain!

you rock!

My gem box is missing. :( It had all of my part references in it, plus hand cut gemstones, plus miniature gems. I would have to start over.

Definitely mixed comments. Part of me needs to get away, while anything that takes up too much of my time is supposed to be used to finish my research project, intracranial pressure monitor.

Is there any chance you would build a tutorial? I plan to make one, but my methods so far haven't fared well.

I don't have the time right now. I will soon be crushed by the weight of my project in neuroscience.

Do you have access to a lathe and mill?

I'm not sure how much machine tool is required, however making parts is easier with the right tools. I can draw something in SolidWorks, and leave it up to you how they will be made. I have other work waiting that will have to come before the tutorial. ^_^

Very nice! amazing detail for such a small scale and with light too! That's just a brilliant bonus that is! I'd love to see you try a full scale version of this. ^_^

At least with the full scale version the batteries would fit inside the SSD. Full scale? Random acts of fabrication have been known to happen.

lol, that is true! Though it's amazing how hard it can be to work out all the use of space XD

I would love to see those random acts of fabrication! I'd pay to OWN one of those full scale acts of fabrication XDDD

Wow, not bad at all. Ever think about using such techniques to improve the character Options Sonic Screwdriver toy?

Only if the designers ask me. ^_^

I wouldn't mind seeing a custom with actual metal pieces, a glass or plastic tube, and a nice resin or epoxy body, built around the actual electronics. Something more accurate in size and detail. I even have comparison pictures of the toy and the actual prop.

This was made for a doll, a prop, 1/3rd scale of the popular toy made by Character Options.

I get no breaks for prototyping. I had no room for batteries or a sound chip, sad when you think about it.

The toy is far superior to anything I can do, and you can't beat the price!
